- A group representing the blind and others with disabilities is protesting limitations to the new read-aloud feature on Amazon’s hot-ticket Kindle electronic reader. Apparently the Authors Guild, concerned that the feature would hurt sales of audio books, is giving authors and publishers the right to silence the read-aloud feature for their books, which the protestors say unfairly limits their access to e-books. Tune in next week for protests on how books have, like, “words” on “pages” that blind people can’t see.
- Aspiring pastry chef and deaf New York City resident Desire Tangert told the New York Post that Pinky, her Yorkshire terrier, was stolen from her on March 19. The dog, which Desire claims understands sign language commands, was one of several items stolen — other booty included computers, a diamond wedding ring and a special TV for the deaf. I can understand the diamond wedding ring and electronics, but stealing a deaf woman’s dog? That’s cold. Especially if he understands sign language. …Unless you plan to sell him to the circus.
- Actor Hugh Jackman said Wednesday that he is “heartbroken” his new movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, was leaked online a month before its official release. Unless by heartbroken he means “worried I might make marginally fewer millions of dollars,” Hugh Jackman needs to reasses his life.
- To the surprise of literally no one, David Alan Grier was eliminated from Dancing with the Stars last night, despite having improved his score by two points during a “last-chance dance off.” Fingers crossed this is a harbinger of Chocolate News‘ imminent return to the airways. (Unfortunately this puts a dent in RA correspondent Jawn’s spotless record as our resident David Alan Grier oracle).
- Ruth Madoff, wife of disgraced financier Bernard Madoff, is gearing up to fight for her two non-seized houses, as well as more than $62 million in private assets. Based on this photo it looks like she’s gearing up to star in a “Meg Ryan at 60″ look-alike contest.
