How To Buy A Gun

krangAh yes, the age old question, and with tonight’s election hurdling forward to the finish line, there may be a lot more people asking the question tomorrow. Stock up on guns and ammunition, folks, because one day soon, we may all be mavericks. It’ll be like the days of the lawless Wild West, with roaming gangs of violent looters on the prowl and gun-slinging vigilantes in the crossfire, except in the end, everyone will die of botulism.

You know, this is way easier to joke about considering even great Krang of the Bush Administration, Karl Rove, is predicting an Obama landslide. …Even if that’s just his feeble attempt at convincing Democrats to stay home and not vote… which it totally is, by the way.

London-based designer Justine Smith has a different idea of how one can use money to acquire weapons. She makes sculptures out of a wide variety of materials, but arguably some of the coolest are the ones that are a kind of massive-origami, using money as the medium.

Her sculptures are complex not just in their design, but their purpose — they speak to our culture’s relationship with money and also work as a celebration of banknotes’ beauty. Ya’ll know that seeing some of that fine green is a beautiful thing, knaw’mean playa?

Smith intended the pieces to comment on how money buys power, and considering the United States’ incredibly exorbitant military spending, the sculptures are an honest look at what our elected officials value most. And that should come as no surprise in the twilight of eight years under the “Bomb, Baby, Bomb” Doctrine, with a fantastically appropriate bomb of a presidential campaign by none other than ‘Merka’s favorite POW.

In conclusion, don’t play drinking games tonight that involve taking a shot every time someone says “exit poll,” and, of course, kill whitey.
