The Water’s Fine
Street skating may be where the money is, but it’s long been said that money cannot buy happiness — no, I’m afraid it can only buy you expensive clothes, the best big kid toys, and lots and lots of marijuana, all of which are pretty good substitutes.
Short of those, another source of happiness is skating a concrete pool. It might not be the sidewalk to fame and fortune in the skateboarding industry, but I urge any of you reading who skate and have never felt the sheer glee of eating shit at the bottom of a cold concrete pool to really consider giving the experience a try some time.
Clothing brand Fourstar documents their new catalog shoot in the online short, The Pink Motel, which features “make you want to go skating” footage from my good friends Eric Koston, Rick Howard, Brian Anderson, Max Schaaf, and Guy Mariano. I was there too, of course, but I’m saving my flicks for the video part.
The video is well-shot and edited, makes pool skating look like the most fun since doing something bad and getting away with it, and really helps relieve the pain of a recently sprained ankle. That last part is actually completely false, by the way. In fact, I’m thinking about cutting my foot off for doing this to me just to show that little bitch who’s boss. Living vicariously through skaters who were already more talented and successful, but most importantly, also in possession of two working ankles hardly helps. Well, nobody ever said ankles buy happiness either, so… that’s comforting… I guess.
