Bright Ideas In Stop Motion Animation

When in doubt, go with something glowing… clearly the Respect Authority outlook on the world, anyway. Perhaps according to a similar philosophy, or just a general agreement that glowing shit is cool, light painting has lately been making inroads into the mainstream media. What was once a small fixation among certain photo-nerds is now appearing on album covers, advertising, and even stop motion animation. Here’s a cool clip by animator Ryan Cashman that just goes to show that there is something intrinsically moth-like about human beings.

Additionally, light trails have been the name of the game in Sprint’s marketing department for months; there are a number of ads circulating using the captivating technique. They’re more elaborate than Cashman’s short, but they naturally had a much more elaborate budget as well.
